SoundLegal is a Perth-based legal practice offering solutions-focused advice to deal with contractual and commercial legal challenges. SoundLegal’s services are tailored to your specific requirements, whether you need a suite of contracts drafted, a simple contract review or a professional clarifications schedule to include in a tender.
Owner and lawyer, Gemma Nugent, launched SoundLegal in 2019 after more than 8 years as Corporate Counsel to a global engineering and design consultant.
Gemma has worked extensively with subcontractors, contractors, principals and consultants on major WA infrastructure projects. Her experience in contract and commercial law and compliance advisory services is relevant to start-ups, growing and established businesses at any stage of operation.
Gemma’s familiarity with private and public sector contracts across large-scale engineering, construction, infrastructure, and consulting projects means she is well placed to advise and represent a broad spectrum of businesses.
Gemma started her legal career as the Associate to Justice Neville Owen at the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Her primary role was to assist with the trial and judgment preparation in the Bell Group litigation. She then joined a boutique corporate litigation firm before becoming an in-house lawyer in 2010. Prior to studying law, Gemma was a policy advisor at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Gemma has been on the board of the Australian Inclusion Group since 2015 (deputy chair since 2020) and volunteers her time at the Subiaco Justice Centre. Gemma is also deputy chair of the board of the Fremantle Language Development Centre. She has lectured in corporate and commercial law at Curtin Law School and spent time as a senior clinical supervisor in the John Curtin Law Clinic.
Gemma is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia (where she sits on the Commercial Law Committee), Women Lawyers WA and the Society of Construction Law Australia. She enjoys keeping abreast of recent developments in the law and is in the process of completing her Master of Laws.
